Young People

Youth Activities

BMCS continues to provide a range of activities for young people: our weekly sessions like swimming, soccer & Cricket clubs: facilitating young people to express themselves and importantly ensure their views and opinions are heard; working with young people in Prisons; providing training opportunities: providing 1 to 1 mentoring opportunities; our After School club or Bristol Muslim Scouts group; our special trips and outings like the Archery or sailing clubs; BMCS consistently performs at a level few VCS organisations can rise to.

Muslim Advisors to HM Prison Service

BMCS advisors have already undergone training and security clearance procedures to be able to work with Muslim prisoner inmates at Horfield, Guys Marsh and Ashfield Young Offenders Institute.

Our Muslim advisors, led by Abid Saleem, have attended residential courses across the country to equip them to be better able to support and provide for the needs of the growing number Muslim inmates of the 3 Prisons that we now work with.

1st Bristol Muslim Scouts Group

BMCS helped launch the 1st Bristol Muslim Scout Group in Dec 2003 for young boys and girls aged 6 to 18 years old. We believe Scouting provides young people the opportunity to develop themselves in a holistic manner. Our members have participated in a National Camp, which included activities such as abseiling, climbing, aerial runway, obstacle course, fire lighting, camp fire songs, air rifle shooting, sailing, archery and many more fun games and activities.

Chaplain at Bristol University

BMCS’s Farooq Siddique continues to be a part of the Multi-Faith Chaplaincy Team at Bristol University.  This allows us to work closely with the hundreds of Muslim students that attend the University.

After School Club

In a joint project with Bannerman Rd School we developed an After School play scheme funded by the New Opportunities Fund.

The scheme aimed to provide an appropriate modern approach to teaching Arabic and the Qur’an whilst enabling the children to stay in school and thereby access and take part in the schools other after school activities, which the school’s Muslim pupils had found difficult on account of their need to attend mosque classes every evening. The ASC includes numeracy & literacy support.
