Salam Shalom

Launch of our very own Internet-based Radio Station.

Following on from of a particularly successful series of dialogues between the Muslim and Jewish Communities that took place in 2005 and 2006, emerged a very exciting new project to formalise the positive relationship that had developed between the two communities: Radio Salaam-Shalom!

BMCS successfully applied to the Community Development Foundation (CDF) to fund a Jewish-Muslim Internet Radio Station. This project is the first of its kind in the UK and its development is yet another example of BMCS's innovative approach to community cohesion putting Bristol on the map and setting an example for other cities to follow.

The radio station broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,  from the newly acquired BMCS office premises on Stapleton Road and was launched on 1st February 2007 - in Easton, in Bristol amidst worldwide media attention!

Already we've seen fantastic co-operation between volunteers from the two communities. Now, more than ever, it is time to draw on and learn from our positive cultural experiences.

The station broadcasts a mixture of programming based around the culturally rich Muslim and Jewish communities. Free media training sessions, which began in November 2006, have been provided for volunteers wishing to produce programmes for the station and have been well attended. The sessions have covered:

         An Introduction to Radio production
         Techniques involved in making programmes
         Using recording equipment
         Presenting skills
         Interviewing techniques

Although the radio station focuses on two particular communities, anyone with an interest in these communities or indeed in radio in general is welcome and encouraged to get involved.
