BMCS Hosts MCB Visit to Bristol
As part of a UK-wide tour, the Muslim Council of Britain’ (MCB) Secretary General Dr. Abdul Bari visited Bristol in August of 2006. BMCS hosted the visit and facilitated his meeting a wide variety of groups and individuals from the Muslim community in Bristol, including young people and women’s groups.
After visiting the new offices of BMCS and being given a presentation on the work of the organisation, Dr Bari visited the Andalusia Academy where he met with representatives of BIST, the Trust that runs Bristol's only Muslim school. He also met with Amana Education Trust, which runs a supplementary school for Somali children.
After lunch at the Academy, the MCB delegation proceeded to the Easton Community Centre where BMCS facilitated a meeting with Imams and Mosque Leaders and representatives of Muslim women's groups in separate sessions. Finally Dr Bari met with Muslim youth in the city and visited the Muslim scouts at their building in Horfield.
At the end of the day, Dr Bari praised BMCS as a “centre of excellence”, and would share our work practices with other Muslim groups across the UK.
We hope that large Muslim umbrella bodies such as the MCB will continue to listen to ordinary Muslims and faithfully advocate on our behalf at national level while we continue to work at the local community level, |
