Cultural Awareness
In our increasingly diverse and multi-cultural society, education, understanding and tolerance are the keys to a harmonious workplace and society.
According to a report by the respected think tank the Runnymede Trust, “the word ‘Islamophobia’ has been coined because there is now a new reality which needs naming: anti-Muslim prejudice has grown so considerably and so rapidly in recent years that a new item in the vocabulary is needed so that it can be identified and acted against.”
At the same time, whilst BMCS acknowledges the above, we believe that if we are to genuinely challenge Islamophobia we must also challenge some of the perceptions within the Muslim community itself. It is this two-pronged approach, one directed at the wider non-Muslim community and the other directed at the Muslim community that BMCS has adopted since 9/11. In an increasingly polarised world, out task is becoming increasingly difficult, but also, increasingly important, necessary and in demand.

Demand for our “Demystifying Islam” presentation continued to increase in 2006-07.
We delivered a phenomenal number of 119 highly acclaimed lectures to the public, private and voluntary sector.
A combined audience of seven thousand three hundred and five (7305) different people of all ages and backgrounds have been able to participate in these sessions. These have included visits to schools, colleges, universities, statutory agencies, employment seminars etc. And reciprocal visits to Mosques.
