Drop-in Advice, Advocacy and Information Service Provision
BMCS continues to be a first point of contact for those seeking advice, advocacy and information. The total number of people who contacted BMCS during the period from April 2006 to March 2007 is 3,928. This is compared 3,724 in the previous period. The figures below do not include email enquiries, which are simply too numerous to mention.
Whilst the overall number of our service users has increased, the percentage of our service users contacting us by telephone has continued to increase steadily over the last few years. This is clear indication that BMCS is now being recognised over a wider geographical area.
In the current period the number of our service users that are male is 60% and female 40%. This is compared to 58% & 42% respectively in the previous period. This is a continued source of encouragement for BMCS, especially when you remember that up to the year 2000, BMCS was very much a male dominated organisation.
This year, for the first time in the history of BMCS, the percentage of our service users that are “white” has surpassed those from any single BME background. This is due to the increasing recognition of our highly acclaimed Cultural Awareness programme, as clearly evident in the analysis of our service provision graph below.
It is worth noting here that these figures ONLY include those clients that have actually contacted the office for advice & information. The figures DO NOT INCLUDE those who have attended our events, or cultural awareness programmes, the figures for which are far in excess of these numbers and are recorded later in this report
